What is Community Pharmacy?

Community pharmacy, the place you pick up your prescriptions, but we can offer so much more than that.

Community pharmacy is an ever-growing sector of healthcare that offers an expanding range of services. Recently, many pharmacies across the country, including us, have taken on seven new services covering: shingles, sore throat, sinusitis, impetigo, urinary tract infections, children’s ear infections, and infected insect bites. Within this new Pharmacy First scheme you can book an appointment with a pharmacist and receive the most appropriate treatment. This has allowed us as community pharmacists to utilise our skills and makes treatments for these conditions more accessible. However, there are limitations, and at the moment we are limited to certain age ranges for each condition. For example, we are currently unable to treat an ear infection in anyone over 18 years old.

In the future, we hope to expand on these services and provide more for our local community. We are looking forward to introducing an exciting new project where our prescribing pharmacists will be able to treat a wider range of conditions. This will help our customers avoid long wait times at the GP and allow GP appointments to be freed up to those who need them.

All of these new services are running alongside our existing services such as the blood pressure clinics, cholesterol tests, contraceptive pill reviews, and travel vaccines.

Next time you’re in to pick up a prescription, if you have any worries or concerns, please speak to a member of the team, we are happy to help. If you wish to book in for an appointment, you can do so by coming in or giving us a call.
