Summer is finally here! While we’re firm believers that every body is a summer body, we’ve put together some helpful tips for those who are looking to lose weight in a healthy and sustainable way. After 15 months of repeated on-and-off lockdowns, it’s no surprise that many of us are probably feeling much more lethargic than usual.
If this applies to you, don’t worry. We’re right there with you.
1) Don’t mistake thirst for hunger
There’s a difference between thirst and hunger, but sometimes they feel the same. If you’re feeling peckish between meals, drink a good amount of water before you reach for the snacks, and see if that makes you feel any better. What’s more, a good level of water intake is paramount to successful weight loss.
2) Be better than fizzy drinks
One of the biggest culprits when it comes to piling on the pounds is sugar, something you’ll find much of in carbonated drinks. So, if you’re serious about losing weight, remember you’re so much better than that can of Coke or Fanta. The NHS recommend 6-8 glasses of fluid per day, and of course that doesn’t include fizzy drinks (sorry!).
3) Keep a regular eye on your progress
It’s vital you regularly track your progress, perhaps weekly or monthly – how else will you know if what you’re doing is working? Manage your weight loss via an app or smart watch to keep yourself on the right path and to figure out what’s working and what isn’t. If you reach a milestone, plan a small reward, or a treat for yourself to keep you going!
4) Choose whole grain carbs over the processed types
Don’t worry, we’re not going to suggest you cut out carbs completely if you don’t feel like you can or even want to, but we do recommend being more conscious about the carbs you eat. For example, why not try to opt for whole grain versions of bread, pasta, and rice? Their processed counterparts remove key nutrients like iron, fibre, and vitamin B, and therefore are known to stunt weight loss.
5) Fall in love with daily walks
Implementing a daily walk into your routine is great for both your physical and mental health, and will help boost your weight loss. This might be music to the ears of those who simply don’t like to exercise and have never gelled with the gym… You don’t have to! A good daily stroll is a great, powerful form of exercise.
6) Look into a professional weight loss service
If you’re truly looking for the best diet for weight loss, consider enlisting help from the professionals like us here at Lynemouth Pharmacy! We offer a medicated weight management service, pairing the support of our expert pharmacist with a prescription medication to help you lose weight healthily. Find out if you’re eligible today.
7) Remember it’s a marathon, not a sprint
Losing weight is a marathon, not a sprint. Why not focus on making one small change at a time? If you wake up one morning and decide to cut out all sugar, go to the gym 6 times a week and walk everywhere instead of drive, it’s more than likely that you won’t be able to keep it all up long-term, and then you’ll be straight back to square one.
